When Guess where trips reached out to me about taking a surprise road trip I was so ecstatic for the opportunity. I love surprises and I couldn’t wait for my trip to arrive. Guess where trip is a Canadian based company. Who recently started expanding into the United States with Florida trips and Georgia Trips. My cousin was visiting from New York so this was the perfect time to take advantage of this road trip. So me and my sister and cousin were up for an adventure! I just told them I have no idea where we were headed . I just said we would be going on a surprise road trip to explore new areas and find some hidden gems. We were having such rainy weather here in South Florida. So we were able to head out on what promised to be a beautiful Sunny Day.
How it works
How it works you’ll go on the website for guess where trips and you’ll fill out a survey . Then answer a series of questions that will help you curate a trip based on your answers. They will ask what is your address so that it can pinpoint the closest trip to you. Then It will ask what style of trip you’re interested in like would you prefer a scenic route or is it a family trip or outdoors trip. Then you chose when you’d like to go on your trip like during the summer or fall winter or spring or anytime.
I choose to do the Treasure Coast trip. As I’ve lived in Florida almost my entire life and I have never really explored that coast before. After we opened the envelope labeled before you go we got prepared for our road trip. This envelope did not give any idea of where we would be headed the next day however it did let us know that we would need to pack beach towel and some sunscreen. It lets you know an approximate timing of when would be the best time to hit the road.
Whats in the envelope
The trip consists of 5 envelopes that are tied together with a string. Tucked in front it has a post card with information about the trip like the trip name and some highlights without spoiling the surprise. Each envelope is labeled so that way you know which o open first. So out of the 5 envelopes the first one is labeled “Before You Go” The second envelope is labeled “Your First Stop” and then “Your Second Stop” and so forth until you get to the last envelope labeled ” Your Fourth Stop” I would recommend going in sequential order because the way the trip is planned out all locations are about 15 minutes apart . They carefully timed out which stop should be your first and they even take in to consideration of when a area may be more populated with tourist or a busy time.
Our First Stop
-The Beach
We took our trip on a Saturday morning So we gassed up the car on a full tank, and we packed up everything from the night before so we would be ready to go. Once you open the first envelope it lets you know the directions to your first stop and it even lets you know if food is a option at each stop. We left the house around 9:30 and we were leaving from Fort Lauderdale so it took us about a hour and a half to get to our first stop. The first stop was absolutely breathtaking the Sun was out but not to hot and the air was crisp and the breeze was blowing. Without spoiling where we were it was definitely a beach which was perfect for the first stop. After the drive was so long we were so hungry and this stop had a cafe right at the beach and we arrived just in time before breakfast ended. So we found a nice shady spot amongst some very unique looking lizards orange and black I tried my best to catch a photo but that lizard was fast!
The breakfast was so yummy and very filling I actually didn’t think I would be able to eat all of it. The staff was really friendly and honestly the cleanest bathrooms that I have seen at a beach. So after we sat and ate and talked and then we went down the pathway lined with beautiful trees. We made our way to the beach where we found an open area and were able to enjoy the view. We got into the water which was extremely cold but felt so good. Honestly I believe we spent the most time here. This was still the first envelope because within the first envelope it had multiple stops! I had to be convinced to move on from this first stop. We knew we had to continue on because our adventure was just beginning!
History Stop
This stop is still apart of the first envelope. We were able to tour the House of Refuge museum. This Museum is the oldest structure in Martin County. The staff was very welcoming. At this stop we learned so much about the area and surrounding area. One interesting fact is that the Native Americans were 6 feet tall.
Our guide gave us a great explanation of the history of the house. This house served as refuge to those who were shipwrecked. The house had keepers who were individuals that lived in the house for free in exchange for walking up and down the shore checking for people who may be stranded. he water was so beautiful . The Coral reef is starting to come back however you cant touch it.
This trip is still in progress so I cant wait to share more about it. We were only able to do the first half of the envelope due to the Weather in the afternoon there was a thunderstorm and tornado warnings. So we had to cut the trip short but I will most definitely looking forward to continuing on to see more and I cant wait!
