I have been walking with Susan G Komen Miami since 2012. I never knew anyone that had breast cancer but I just knew it was a cause that I wanted to be apart of. So I decided to get out there and call all my friends and see who wanted to participate. So the walk takes place in downtown Miami and they usually block off all the major roads and they have police out there to keep everything organized. My first year doing the walk I was amazed at the turnout so many people showed up Survivors and family friends and kids even dogs! Everyone dressed up in pink and men in pink tutus and colorful wigs all showing their support. They start off early morning and they do a special ceremony for the survivors and they get called to the stage in order to be honored! They even have a large tent set up where the survivors can come in with their party and have free breakfast and a gift bag for the survivors to have filled with different goodies.
So fast forward three years later my mom was diagnosed with Breast cancer and we all couldn’t be more shocked. It’s so important to go and do your mammograms and do your self checks also. Breast cancer doesn’t just affect the person with it but it affects the entire family unit. You need the support from your loved ones friends and family and neighbors all came together are family is forever grateful for them!
So this year due to Covid the Susan G. Komen walk is going to be virtual. However all week long they have different activities that you can participate in you can go ahead and follow along on my Instagram account if you want to take part in the fun!
