save + share When in Jacksonville this is a must do a great way to see the city and learn the history 🐬

Did you know you could take a cruise on a river taxi and see Manatees and Dolphins which are two of the biggest mammals that you would see in the St. John’s River. ⛴️

Do you know what makes the water in the river is brown? It’s not because the water is dirty but it’s because of the tannic acid. Further south of the river has a lot more vegetation and so as the trees release the leaves it gets into the water.

Captain and Heather was such an awesome tour guide she had all the insight and made this cruise really fun.

The blue bridge unlike regular bridges it doesn’t just go up in the middle it actually raises all the way up!

I visited @visit_jax for the first time last weekend and let me just say I learned a wealth of knowledge about the Black History of Jacksonville . Learning the History of a place is something that’s so important to me in every place I go.

-Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park 🌳

Mr Lloyd Washington worked on the Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park in the previous photos and he worked on the project for 12 years!

Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park is an ode to the Black National Anthem and it’s open to the public for Free the park just opened up this year. James Weldon Johnson and his brother John Rosamond Johnson composed the music to Lift every voice and sing.

Have you learned about Mamie “Peanut” Johnson she struck out Babe Ruth 3 times in an exhibition match.

Satchel Paige could pitch a ball at over 110 miles per hour and I don’t know about you but that’s pretty fast.

-Durkeeville Historical Society 📚

Durkeeville Historical Society is a nonprofit organization and they truly give back to the community. They offer a literacy program where they give out books to the kids in the community with their parent’s permission.

I was blessed enough to have a personal guided tour with Mr Lloyd Washington who had a wealth of knowledge about the community and key individuals. You would find great Black Olympians and musicians like Ray Charles in the area.

In the photo on the left side of me is Mr Lloyd Washington and on the right side of me is Mrs Frank Lyons one of the first Black EEO (Electric Authority’s equal opportunity officers).
