Its Colombia not Columbia! First time in South America so much rich culture, heart and Food. Its about a 2 1/2 hour flight from Fort Lauderdale airport. Cartagena ,Colombia is the destination that should be on everyones list. People did question why would you want to go there, and is it safe? It was very much safe and if you never travel to places outside of your normalcy then you haven’t fully lived until you open your self up to some adventure. Anywhere you go you need to be very mindful don’t go off on your own.
The hotel that we stayed at was very beautiful, they had a golf cart that would take you to the private pool/beach area! I truly enjoyed every dessert and all the views from the resorts resturants! They did not speak a lot of english anywhere we went so google translate is your best friend if you don’t speak Spanish. I know a little ,well enough to get by!
There is so much to see and do here, its definitely a photographers dream ! Ciudad Amurallada better known as “The walled City” is a huge tourist spot!
Both of these below are located inside the walled city. La Pepita pictured below on the left had the best burgers and fries! Pictured on the right below is from the chocolate Factory with the most delicious chocolates that barely made it to the airport!
The palenqueras are a group of iconic women that everyone looks to get a picture with. However their story is that these women travelled from a city south of cartagena to cartagena and they sold the fruits that they carried in their baskets in order to make money. You can see them all over the walled city. If you get a photo with them its polite to give a tip. She was so sweet she said ” you don’t have to yo are one of us, you look like me” we tipped her anyway.
This was a true authentic experience for the true culture driven wanderlust!

I didn’t realize how short of a flight it is to Cartagena! I still haven’t had the chance to visit Colombia but now it’s definitely on my list!

It reminds me of Old Havana in a lot of ways. Great share – thanks!
