The Gathering
Thanksgiving for me it’s always been about the gathering together with family first and the food second 😁 . Growing up in a West Indian household Christmas has always been the big holiday celebration in this house.
The list
Grocery shopping hits different when your the one in charge of the list. Whew! ..I mean when I lived at home with my parents I occasionally went to get groceries but not for an entire household I would just pick up a few things here and there. I feel like I live at Publix because I’m constantly there picking up things that I forgot to get ,or things that I didn’t realize I even needed. When your making your list you want to make sure you know who is coming. Make sure you are cooking just enough or do you want to have leftovers and food for people to leave with.
The Preparation
Cooking is something my parents both loved to do growing and I always enjoyed that. Both of my parents are West Indian so that means a lot of seasoning and a lot of spice. I do enjoy cooking but for me it was more of an occasional thing. However being a homeowner has put a little bit more on me to now make sure I absorbed and took in what they taught me.
There can be a lot of pressure when you are the host especially for a major holiday. I’ve been a home owner for a little over a year now time flies! However this year will be my first time hosting thanksgiving 🦃 and being a little overwhelmed is a understatement 😂.
The Menu
We never really focus on the turkey like most people do but we have more Caribbean things on the menu like Goat. A baked macaroni pie which is my moms recipe for macaroni and cheese baked in the oven. We will have a lot of non traditional foods like ox tail, curry goat and roti. However some traditional meals that we will still have our cranberry sauce, sweet potato , candy yams and stuffing.
I hope everyone has a very happy thanksgiving Holiday and if you plan on Black Friday shopping I will be sharing some deals I find in my newsletter so don’t forget to subscribe 😁

Happy Holidays! I’m list person and think it’s very important when having an event so that you guarantee all items are bought. I love the diversity of your menu. It’s a beautiful holiday for family to be around each other to give thanks. God bless and healing for our Indigenous Peoples brothers and sisters as well.
